What Is Skype?

And Why Is It Useful To Me?

Skype is a service which allows you to make free computer-to-computer phone-calls to pretty much anywhere in the world.

The calls can be voice-only, but if you have a web-cam, then you can make video-calls, where you can see the person you're speaking to, in real time.

It doesn't matter if only one person has a webcam. You will still be able to speak to each other.

If you have a laptop with a built in web-cam, then all you have to do is download the Skype software here.

If you don't have a webcam, but would like to make video-calls, then you can buy a cheap, plug-in webcam with a built-in microphone. Amazon stocks them here, but you can also buy them at places like PC World, and in the electronics departments of supermarkets and stores.

If you’re interested, you can find out more about the Skype service here.
